The Rogue Prince of Persia, developed by Evil Empire, ventures into Steam Early Access on May 14th. In this 2D roguelite action-platforming adventure, players embody a fresh rendition of the Prince, thrust into action shortly after triggering an invasion by the Huns, who overwhelm Persia’s defenders with their ominous shamanic magic. Fortunately, the Prince wields a mystical bola that spares him from demise, transporting him back to the last secure time and place he visited – a desert oasis, where players will respawn after each defeat.
During its Early Access phase, Evil Empire prioritizes refining the initial gameplay experience, while actively seeking community feedback to further enhance the game. Additionally, they plan to introduce new storylines, levels, and gameplay features leading up to the official launch. The game’s levels, ranging from an invasion-ravaged village to an aqueduct with perilous waterslides, dynamically rearrange with every playthrough, offering fresh enemy encounters, hidden treasures, and platforming obstacles for players to uncover. Progression unlocks new pathways and areas; for instance, encountering a character who divulges information about the Huns’ War Camp not only allows players to head there next but also opens a direct path from the starting oasis.
The gameplay revolves around swift traversal and intense combat. The Prince can utilize wall-running mechanics to maneuver both horizontally and vertically across the environment, facilitating agile combat maneuvers and exploration. Environmental hazards, such as traps and enemies, challenge players to adapt their strategy continually. Combat encounters feature skull-masked Huns armed with various weapons, requiring players to employ a combination of melee and ranged attacks, dodges, and special abilities to emerge victorious. Medallions found throughout the game augment the Prince’s combat prowess, allowing him to inflict status effects on foes.
Each defeat in the game unlocks new narrative elements, characters, and opportunities, enriching the overall experience and encouraging exploration. With every failure, the world of The Rogue Prince of Persia expands, promising an ever-evolving adventure. Explore the game’s intricacies firsthand when it debuts on Steam Early Access on May 14th.
